Jomfruland Hovedgård

About

Jomfruland Hovedgård (The Virgin Island Manor) is the oldest farm on the island. The main building is a large and charming house from 1907 with a big garden and lovely ocean view. Most of the rooms are kept as old and simple stile. Dining room and fine living room have 100 year-old roof and wall decorations. The bathroom has WC, shower, washingmachine and floor heating. There is also a toilet on the second floor. The house has water and sewage. The total space is approx. 280m2. In the first floor there are three living rooms, two bedrooms and a glass veranda with stairs to the garden. On the second floor there is a smaller living room facing west (afternoon sun), three large and one small bedrooms and an extra toilet. There are sleeping places for 20 people. There are garden furniture and grill place. The house is suitable for two to four families who know each other, or one group.

Jomfruland is one of the sunniest places in the country and famous for the beautiful nature, the rolling stone beaches, art exhibitions and the lighthouses. Jomfruland Hovedgård is located at the idyllic north part of the island, by the protected area with rich birds and plant lives. The oak forest is well-known for its beautiful carpet of wood anemones in spring. From the house to the beaches is just a few minutes walk. A 200m-long sand beach is right by the house's jetty and is ideal for small children. The house has a small row boat for free use. There is a fine cycling road along the whole island, and it is possible to rent a bike or a horse. It is not allowed to visitors to drive on the island. You need to park your car in Kragerø or Valle. If you are coming by your boat, you can use guest harbour at Tårnbrygga.
There are a shop and a restaurant on the island. The fastest way to come to Hovedgård is to take taxi boat from Kragerø or Valle. Daily ferry also goes from Kragerø. You can book transport with tractor to the house.
